Harry never thought of himself as a normal person, despite his name he had an unusual charm that only his close friends appreciated, though none of them saw where it would take them. Baba Harough, pronounced with a J, 'Harooj the baba of the venex syrians', I certainly never saw that one coming, not in my wildest dreams, craziests trips or most spiritual visions. Well perhaps spiritual visions...
"Call me your entertainer, call me your avatar, call me your brother, call me your spirit guardian"
Helen pulls herself through the ground using her sheild as a transcendental spade as she looks over her shoulder at the large lion. She can see through the dirt and roots as he calls out to her.
"Veil yourself in blue as we approuch the lake"
Where was Tasma? She reaches into her pouch hanging by her side, turning the powder blue before throwing it forwards and over her head. The wall breaks away before her opening out to deep lake, shining orbs appear towards its bottom. The blur powder mixes in with the water forming a sheild as she looks about her, the lion has gone.
"Whats happening lady Blue?"
"Tasma!" replies Helen as the giant spirit-earth worm splashes through the water from above, she can hear a drum beat in the distance, still steady.
"Whats with the orbs?"
"I don't know, shall we go have a look"
They both move through the water in to its pale blue depths, small fish silently pass by, only vaguely aware of their presense. Tasma is about 12 feet long and as round as a soccer ball, she has a oil-like complexion. Large ruts cover her body, hidden beneath the slimy skin, she has many talents, swimming being one of them.
"Do you see that?" Helen calls cautiously. A large opening has come into view through the murky water, what they are looking at is some kind of ship. Tasma moves silently up by Helens head as she expands the sheild to cover them both, they are veiled. The orbs are like windows and the ship is opening its mouth like some kind of technological sea clam, what pearls lie inside.
"Wait Helen" Tasma calls though her mind, "the beat calls"
Helen looks up, she can hear the rhythm now, sharp and fast.
"No, we should have a look" pleas Helen, feeling anxiety surround her. Her sheild begins to fail flickering like a candle in the wind. The orbs below unattach themselves from the vessel, curiously calm. Tasma wraps herself around Helen thrusting up through the water with total agility. The orbs remain in their position, gently gliding about the ship, Helen keeps her eye on them as she is lifted towards the rhythmic surface of the lake. The beat gets louder, frantic, too frantic...
"Helen!"
Helens eyes bulge as watery vomit gulps from her throat. Andy is shaking her by her shoulders as Shiva loosens his grip on his drum.
"Helen." Andy calls again, pearing into her blank and bulging eyes.
"Call me your entertainer..."
"What?"
"Call me your avatar"
"She's speaking but shes not all here" Andy calls over to shiva, he is rocking lightly back and forth on his cushion, he has consumed a foot of cactus only an hour ago. "Start drumming again". Shiva slowing begins banging the drum with his stick.
"Cwawhy are you still drumming?"
"Shes out! You can stop. Stop Shiva"
"Ok Ok she was back" Shiva closes his eyes, pulling his hood over his head remaining in meditative trance.
The three are sitting outside Shivas house, the grass is burnt, the sun has temporarily gone behind a cloud.
"What did I say?" asks Helen.
"When?" queries Andy, rubbing the vomit off his hand onto the grass.
"Just before, when I had pulled"
"You weren't pulled, your eyes were blank, its that bloody worm of a guardian you have, what was he doing down there?"
"No he pulled me out, it was me, I just freaked out... there was this Lion" Helen rubs vomit into her red hair and out of her face, lifting herself from the ground. "Do you have a cigi?"
"Yeah sure" Andy shoves his still partailly vomited hand into his pocket, pulling out the pouch of tabacco, Port Royal. He hands it over to Helen. She reaches a hand out leaning forwards on her crossed feet.
"How long was I gone? Do you have a pen?"
"Yeah sure" Andy reaches into his back pocket and pulls out a pen, what is she thinking having a spirit animal - well not even an animal - like that.
"You don't know her" she is...sublime, Helen thinks as Tasma carves silently through the earth beneath her. She fumbles the tabacco into a paper, the paper is all wet. "Where did all this water come from?"
"Thats your vomit" speaks Shiva his eyes still closed as he begins to rock on his cushion, side to side, forwards and back, side back side forward side. He is marking the quarters, they are already marked on his lawn with a miniture stone henge, a tree sits in the west. The neighbours music begins to play, sounds like they are beginning to drink.
"What is it... three O Clock" says Andy looking at his phone, "Oh do you want me to roll that for you"
"Yes thanks Andy" Helen hands the pouch back, I have a pouch in my pocket. She grabs her book from next to her as the cat comes down the steps of the back porch. "Um... what did I say again?"
"Whats wrong with you? Why didn't you come back?" Andy grips the rolled cigarette in his hand.
"It was this Lion, I'm trying to remember what he said" Helen closes her eyes moving her hand across the paper in front of her, she stops and opens her eyes. "Weird"
"What does it say?" Andy asks patting Cyndy as she purrs onto the scene.
"'Call me your brother, call me your spirit guardian', is that what I said?"
"You were out of it, Shiva did you see anything while you were drumming?"
"Yes, I saw a Lion"
"You saw the Lion" both Helen and Andy say in Unison.
"And I am the Lion"
All four including Cyndy are startled at that annoucement, and an unannouced entry it is, through Shivas house and out the back of it into the shamanic journey place.
"Harry" calls Helen shoving herself up off the ground, where did he come from? She stumbles as her legs uncross and she quickly rebalances herself. Harry walks up modestly and gives Helen a hug.
"Have you been journeying?" he asks with a glimmer of a smile, his eyes sparkling as the sun emerges from the cloud it has been hidden by.
"Yeah I was just writing it down" she leaves the hug and takes a step back nudging gently on Andys back.
"Call me your entertainer, call me your Avatar" andy calls, his memory snapping into place.
"What?" Says Harry, looking troubled, "whats Shiva up to?"
"Im here" says Shiva who had returned to his meditation. "I've taken the cactus"
"I see"
Shiva rocks his quarters once again as the clouds hide the sun once again, the day has just begun and yet it is at an end, what the future holds is but a twinkle in a mind fixed on words and echoes from a distant place which is ever present. The sun begins to set.
"Whats in this box?" snarls Zane as he thumps a box onto the floor.
"Crystals" replies Brad as he ticks a box on his notebook.
"Whats that?" asks Jeromes wife, Sally, through the cell phone.
" Oh It's Zoran and Axely, they are still working away at last weeks order"
Brad looks up from his notebook briefly, straightening his posture slightly. It is late night at the crystal shop, Jerome is preparing for the nights event, a famous guru is coming town and he is making his appearance in the spiritual centre of Terrington.
"Is everything going to be ready in time" asks sally, Jerome can hear the vegetables she is frying in the distance.
"Yeah is the food going to be ready?" replys Jerome, eyeing Zane and Brad though the door to the storage room. The curtains are all open on the walls, of which there are two made fully of glass. Crystals and new age books have been moved towards the corners to make way for the seat where the guru will sit.
"Yes it is getting there, have you heard from him? What time is he arriving, what is his name, Maharishi Genpoi?"
"Maharishi Genorapoi"
"Ahhh fuck" Zane kicks the box of crystals he has just dropped on his foot.
"Watch it Zoran, where is your centre, your purpose?" Remarks Brad, gently placing his notebook on the counter as he walks out of the storage room into the main area. Cushions have been scattered around the floor. Gerome is draping a peice of pink and purple material over the guru's chair with one hand as he talks of his phone.
"Well I better let you get back to it" says Sally, "Sounds like you've got some work on your hands with those two about"
"They are good people, maybe not the best workers, but.. they are just doing what they have to"
Zane eyes Brad from out behind the storage curtain.
"Om Namah Shivaya, Om Namah Shivaya, Om Namah Shivaya"
"Are you coming Shiva?" Asks Brent, he is fixing tea on the stove, still at Shiva's mums house.
"Ommmyeah are you making me a tea?"
"Oh I didn't think you'd want one" Replies Brent
"Come on Brent, he's tripping, offer him something?" It is Andy, sitting at the kitechen table waiting for tea, Helen and Harry have gone down to the shop for milk and suger.
"When are Helen and Harry gonna be back?" Brent asks, he is wearing a thin tight T-shirt excentuating his muscular frame. The kitchen is homely, Shiva's mum is still away at work cleaning. The kitchen reflects her work, clean yet homely. Shiva is sitting in the corner on Cyndy's cushion.
"What have you been up to today?" Asks Andy back at Brent, Shiva lights a cigarette.
"Just at work, did a bit of reading"
"At work?" Andy is watching Brent squash the tea bags into the edge of the cups and throw them into the bin under the sink.
"Nah when I got home"
"What are you reading?..oh is it still that Syrian connection one?"
"Yeah. Where are they? Are we going to this thing or what?"
"Is the tea ready?" Asks Andy.
"Om Namah Shivaya, Om Namah Shivaya, Om Namah Shivaya"
Helen and Harry come into the kitchen wearing shawls over there shoulders, Harry wears green, Helen wears Pink, she is looking over here shoulder as she carrys the milk.
"Oh just in time" says Andy who had been closely observing the tea being made as he twirled a dorge in his hand.
"Let the ceremony begin", Harry hands the suger to Brent who happily rips it open and begins stirring it into the cups, Helen glides by and out the back door to the journeying space.
"How is she doing?" Asks Brent, handing the finished tea to Harry.
"Good, she has finished her journey"
"Om Namah Shivaya, Om Namah Shivaya, Om Namah shivaya"
"Why are you chanting that Shiva?" Brent has hands Shiva a tea.
"It helps with my digestion, too may onions"
The tree appears withered, it's leaves are wiltered, why are you sick? Helen walks slowly towards the tree, it grows larger as she moves towards the stone henge centre.
"Alaboroh" she calls, looking up at towards the boughing branches. Alaboroh her spirit kangaroo leaps down from above.
"What are you doing?"
"I don't know, I just felt like journeying"
"Where is the drum?"
Helen looks into her mind, she can see shiva sitting in the kitchen, large forks are encircling his body like metalic electricity. She pulls her mind back to the tree, she can hear a drum thudding lightly up above.
"I'm going up the tree" she says, pulling a powder from her pouch, red, it is red. She makes a cloud below her feet and begins to rise up the tree, Alaboroh leaps up into the branches ahead of her. She can see an ship above the tree, it is hovering, yes it is the same kind of ship, she can see the orbs on the side. Will it open again?
"Where are you going!?" Calls Alaborah, Helen realises she is not going into her journey space but is pulling herself towards the ship, suddenly she hears a large Lion growl.
"Call me sorceror, call me saint, call me seer, call me Krishna"
Helen looks back behind her, she is floating in the air, the tree is gone, she can see the stonehenge below, Andy is down on the lawn. Where is the Lion?
"Where is Helen?" Andy comes walking back into the kitchen carrying his tea. "I just looked out on the lawn and she isn't there.
"Om Namah Shivaya Om Namah Shivaya..."
"Shiva!" Cries Andy, Brent spins around, he is still leaned up against the kitchen bench.
"Don't call out to him like that!" He shouts, Shiva is fixed in meditative trance his chanting constant and rhythmic.
" Well where is she?"
"Come with me" Harry walks calmly across the room and out towards the back porch, the stars are glistening in the night sky. Andy and Brent follow leaving shiva on his cushsion, he rocks forwards and back, side to side, side - fowards - side - back - side. Helen is sitting in the centre of the stone henge rocking rhythmically.
"There she is" says brent. "Why is she journeying again?"
The tree in the east waves lightly in the breeze, there are smaller trees planted at each quarter, on the henge.
"Helen" Harry says, Andy walks up towards her.
"Call me sorcerer, call me saint.."
"What?"
Shiva has stopped chanting, he walks out onto the back porch of his mothers house.
"There is a ship in the sky" he says, pointing upwards towards the stars. Brent and Andy look upwards, Harry walks towards Helen and takes her hand.
"Call me seer, call me Krishna" she mutters, breathing loudly. The wind begins to blow a warm gust from the east, the sounds of the neighbours party enter their sphere. It is Bob Dylan 'Hey Mr. Tamborine Man play a song for me...'
"Shiva" calls Helen, she is out of breath, Andy and Brent look over Shiva's way, partially distracted my the sound from next door.
"Whats going on here" It is Shiva's mum, she is carrying two bags of shopping, Shiva turns around.
"Oh mum, Hi" he says "I didn't expect you back"
"Well it's 8 O Clock, isn't it about time you lot headed off out of here"
"Yeah I wasn't sure if I was going or not"
"Well your dressed for the occasion"
Shiva is wearing a fur coat with the arms cut off, his bare muscles exposed underneath.
"Yeah I will probably go, we are all ready to leave now, arn't we?" Shiva says turing back to face the group, Helen is standing by Harrys side, Brent and Andy are looking over the fence talking to the neighbours, holding their feet off the ground.
"Hi guys"
"Hello" answers Harry, his arm around Helen leading her back towards the door. "Yes lets go see what this maharishi has to say"
"Here here" answers Andy who has dropped off from the fence rubbing his arms, Brent still quite comfortably suspending himself.
